The US Supreme Court has overturned a jury award for plaintiffs who successfully sued over cancer allegedly caused by Roundup, a popular weed killer. The Court ruled that the plaintiff’s lawsuit was preempted by federal law, meaning he could not seek a remedy in state court. As a result, not only was this particular case overturned, but now thousands of other lawsuits involving Roundup are potentially in peril.

According to a recent article published by Consumer Reports, no less than 23 popular brands of protein powder were found to have lead contamination above their “level of concern.” While most of these brands did not have high enough levels of lead to be considered dangerous under normal circumstances, it still points to the potential dangers associated with these products. It also brings into question whether use of these dietary supplements is worth the potential health risks associated with lead exposure.

Hershey’s is facing a federal lawsuit that has accused it of having wrappers containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). This has resulted in Hershey’s candy containing elevated levels of these potentially dangerous “forever chemicals.” This is particularly concerning given the popularity of these products with children, who may be at increased risk of health problems from PFAS exposure.

Lochinvar LLC has issued a recall for approximately 17,000 of its condenser boilers after it was found they had a defect that could result in carbon monoxide leaking from the boiler. This poses a potential risk to anyone who owns these boilers, given the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. Anyone with these boilers should contact the manufacturer for a free repair, and make sure to have carbon monoxide detectors active until the issue can be fixed.
