Chemical Manufacturers Sued Over PFAS in Carpets

Three major chemical manufacturers have been accused of attempting to cover up the risks of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that were used in the manufacturing of carpets up until 2020. In a recent class action lawsuit, 3M, Corteva, and Chemours were accused of concealing the health effects of these “forever chemicals,” leading people to become exposed to them. The lawsuit is seeking to cover the costs of replacing affected carpets, as well as punitive damages against the manufacturers.

NHTSA Celebrated Annual July 4 Campaign Against Drunk Driving

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) celebrated its annual July 4 campaign against drunk driving. This campaign was meant to remind people of the dangers of drunk driving, as well as to spread awareness of ways to avoid driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Holidays such as July 4 tend to see much higher rates of drunk driving compared to other times of the year, with the summer being one of the worst times of the year for DUIs.

New Study Finds Children Near Fracking Sites at Higher Risk of Leukemia

A recent study by the Yale School of Public Health has found that children that live near fracking sites are at a higher risk of developing leukemia. The study, published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, shows that children that live within two kilometers of a fracking site are between two to three times more likely to develop acute lymphoblastic leukemia between the ages of two and seven. This study shows the high risk that the practice poses to people, despite claims that energy companies are taking appropriate measures to protect public health.
